  • Why must I stop eating and/or drinking prior to the procedure?


    Eating prior to receiving general anesthesia can lead to issues such as nausea, vomiting, and aspiration (when something you eat or drink goes down your airway). These pose risks for surgery involving the digestive system and potentially causing complications. It is important to have an empty stomach to ensure a safe and smooth surgical experience.

  • Should I take my usual daily medication?

    Take any medications that your physician has suggested the morning of surgery with a small sip of water.

  • What should I do if I am not feeling well before my surgery?

    If you are ill with fever, chest cold, vomiting or diarrhea just before the day of your surgery, please contact the doctor's office to to discuss the possibility of postponing your procedure.

  • May I drive home after surgery?

    If you will be undergoing anesthesia, you will need to have someone drive you home, receive discharge instructions, and stay with you the night of surgery. Please make arrangements ahead of time.

  • Can I drive while wearing a sling?
